As always refer to your veterinarian's advice when it comes to making decisions about your dog's health.
My dogs LOVE almond butter! Every time I make a smoothie and open the jar they go crazy trying to lick the spoon so I wanted to know if dogs can eat almond butter?
The simple answer and if you're here because you are worried that you're dog might be poisoned from eating it is: Yes, dogs can eat almond butter and it is non-toxic. That doesn't mean you should just go lathering all of their food in it and you should still proceed with caution when feeding your dog almond butter. Read on to find out why!

The Good
I am very fortunate to have two GIANT dogs. They're seriously people-sized. Bonhomme is 150 pounds and Bailey is 130 pounds.
They have eaten and gotten into a lot of things and been relatively fine, which not all dog owners can say. My dogs can pretty much weather any storm. That being said not all dog owners can say that.
Almond butter can be a sweet treat for your dogs. It's a great way to help train food-motivated dogs and switch up the treats they currently get.
Also using the old almond butter in a Kong trick is a great way to mentally stimulate your pup and keep them entertained for hours!
The Bad
There are a lot of dogs that can't digest almonds and it's tough on their stomachs. This isn't a life or death issue BUT it certainly would make it very uncomfortable for them and could cause some gastrointestinal issues.
The other issue with almond butter is that it is high in calories. and especially for smaller dogs, this can be a huge problem. 100 calories to a 10-pound dog are vastly different than 100 calories to a 150-pound dog. If your dog is on a weight-reduction plan we advise steering clear of using almond butter as a treat.
Lastly, always read the label on any product you're going to give your dog but definitely human foods. Lots of almond butters contain Xylitol or other artificial sweeteners that are toxic to dogs.
If you are thinking about treating your dogs to some almond butter start small to see how their bodies will react to it.
In conclusion
Almond butter can be a sweet treat for your dogs and can be a great way to help you keep them happy and trained, but it should be just that a treat. Something that's given in small quantities seldomly.
Make sure that the almond butter that you plan on giving to your dog is in fact 100% almond butter and doesn't contain any other artificial sweeteners and especially doesn't contain chocolate!
Stay beautiful,
John, Bonhomme & Bailey
