This homemade vegan pizza recipe is so easy to make and it's better than any takeout you've ever had you'll never order delivery again!

The Details
This is the 2nd day of "Le Vegan Pizza Week" I completely made up the week so that I could eat more vegan pizza! Some people call me crazy, I say I'm a genius, who's to say really!
Day 1: Vegan Pizza Dough
Day 2: Homemade Vegan Pizza (this recipe)
Day 3: Vegan BBQ Chicken Pizza
Day 4: Vegan Breakfast Pizza
Day 5: Vegan Butter Chicken Pizza
Day 6: Vegan Buffalo Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza
Day 7: Vegan Spicy Perogy Pizza
This is a classic take on the traditional North American pizza. Pizza sauce, vegan mozzarella, vegan pepperoni. I also added mushrooms and vegan bacon bits to mine for extra flavor! You of course can add whatever ingredients you like best because it's your pizza! (yes even pineapple).
This recipe also dips perfectly in our vegan ranch recipe!
How To Make Homemade Vegan Pizza
This pizza recipe is a take on the classic North American 'za' recipe. The toppings are completely interchangeable to your liking, yes even pineapples!
We don't have a pizza stone or special pizza oven (maybe one day) so we use our large cast-iron skillet and normal oven and they both work great. But if you do have a pizza stone or pizza oven feel free to use those!
Ingredients and Price Breakdown
- Pizza Dough ($0.72) For the dough, we generally make our own vegan pizza dough recipe which is super simple and easy to make but sometimes we really just don't feel like baking. You can easily sub in the pizza dough for store-bought (we buy ours from DeLuccas in Winnipeg) it just needs to be able to make a 12-inch pizza.
- Sauce ($0.36) We love using my mom's pasta sauce recipe as our pizza sauce and we almost always have extras frozen in our freezer that make it easy to defrost and use, but you can use whichever pizza or pasta sauce you like.
- Vegan Pepperoni ($1.58) The most realistic vegan pepperoni we've been able to find so far is made by Yves. The taste is very similar.
- Vegan Mozzarella ($6.98) Vegan cheese is always hotly debated and for the most part, it sucks and doesn't melt well. The best cheese we've found that melts well is Miyokos Mozzarella. Pro-tip: freeze the cheese before grating it onto the pizza. You could save some money by choosing a different vegan cheese other than Myokos which is the priciest here in Canada but we find that it yields the best results so it's worth the price.
- Mushrooms ($0.11) Seriously can't get enough of mushrooms on and in everything!
- Vegan Bacon Bits ($0.02) Fun fact the original bacon bits are vegan and are made out of textured vegetable protein or TVP.
Total = $9.77 for one 12 inch pizza.
Kitchen Equipment I used for recipe:
- Cast Iron Skillet Set (10 & 12 in) - I use my 12-inch cast-iron skillet almost daily for so many recipes but especially for my vegan pizzas. Pizza stones work great as well but I love the versatility of the cast-iron skillet.
- Pizza Cutter - this is a great tool to cut pizzas. A large knife easily does the trick as well but that's not as fun!
- Outdoor Pizza Oven - I wish I owned one of these outdoor pizza ovens myself but I don't currently have the backyard set-up, I do however have friends that have it and I've seen it in action and it is seriously cool! If you have some money to splurge then I highly recommend this product!

- Spread the pizza sauce evenly on top of the dough leaving a 1-inch gap around the edge for the crust. Add mushrooms and pepperoni slices, then evenly spread cheese and add more pepperoni and bacon bits.
- Bake the pizza in the oven for 25 minutes.
Garlic Butter (optional)

Commonly Asked Homemade Vegan Pizza Questions
How do you store vegan pizza?
Storing vegan pizza is easy. I usually wait for the pizza to cool completely and once it has I put it into an airtight container and put it in the fridge to eat the next day. Ziploc bags also work well for one or two slices to pack for lunch but we try and reduce the amount of plastic we use.
How do you reheat vegan pizza?
The best way to reheat vegan pizza is a long-contested and highly debated topic, with many people having their own personal favorites. Here are some of the most popular and effective ways to reheat your vegan pizza:
- Frying pan: on medium heat add your leftover vegan pizza and a bit of water and cover with a lid. The steam will heat the top and the frying pan will keep the bottom crispy.
- Oven/Toaster-Oven: Baking the leftover vegan pizza at 350 degrees for a couple of minutes will ensure that it remains crisp and doesn't get soggy.
- Air Fryer: This may come as a surprise to some people but when I asked this question on Twitter Air Fryer was the most popular response! Place in the air fryer basket at 390 degrees for a few minutes for best results!
- Cold: This one goes without saying but cold leftover pizza is delicious especially when you're hungover!
What toppings can you add to vegan pizza?
Pizza toppings are probably one of the biggest sources of conflict known to humankind. Everyone has their favorite combination of toppings, and let's not even get started on whether they should be over or under the cheese! Here are some of our favorite topping combinations for vegan pizzas:
- Spinach, Vegan Feta, Mushrooms
- Vegan Butter Chicken Pizza
- Pineapple and Vegan Ham
- Vegan Breakfast Pizza
- "Big Mac" Pizza (Vegan ground round, lettuce onions, vegan Big Mac sauce)
- Vegan Mozzarella and Basil
- Spinach and Artichoke
- Mushrooms with Thyme and Oregano
- Vegan BBQ Chicken Pizza

I used to order pizza with no cheese for a vegan option and had to source out which places had vegan dough.. it’s so much better when I can make it easily at home - and customize it to include some of my favourite toppings. I’m here for pizza week!!

This recipe was legit sooooo good! We added black olives and green peppers to ours instead of mushrooms and it was delicious!
