How To Make Vegan Chipotle Mayo

This vegan chipotle mayo recipe is debatably one of the easiest recipes on the blog. But it's one that many people still don't generally know how to make. It's super easy I promise it's all about finding the right ingredients.
Vegan mayo can be very hit and miss and I find that a lot of them can be quite runny. I used Hellman's vegan mayo for the recipe for this recipe, because it's thick and has good consistency.
I had never even heard of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce a couple of years ago, but than I lived in California for a year and it opened my world up! Turns out they're readily available at almost all grocery stores in the international aisle this is the brand I always get:
There's literally only one step to this recipe vegan chipotle mayo:
- Mix mayo and sauce from chipotle peppers in a small bowl together until combined.
- That's it!
If you're unable to find chipotle peppers in adobo sauce or you ran out but you have chipotle seasoning on hand you can sub out the sauce for the seasoning. The flavour definitely isn't as strong but it works in a pinch!
Kitchen Equipment I used for recipe:
- Ramekin set for sauces - These ramekins are great for dipping sauces because they have a wide mouth and they're available in a couple different sizes!

Pups Notes

This statement goes for most sauces but especially any that involve mayo: dips and sauces should always be used in moderation. The basis for most dips is fat which has 9 calories per gram compared to protein and carbs that have 4 calories per gram.
Our brains are hardwired through evolution to crave fats and find them more delicious because thats how we used to survive, now that we have more calories than we could ever need we still crave it but don't necessarily need it as much for survival.
As you can see even just this small sauce that is 2 tablespoons adds in more than 100 calories and not much nutritional value.
It tastes great but should definitely be used sparingly!
Commonly asked questions about vegan chipotle mayo
Is there dairy in chipotle mayo?
Not usually, in traditional chipotle mayo there are eggs in the mayo making it not vegan but most traditional mayo's do not contain dairy. However, simply swapping out traditional mayo for vegan mayo makes the recipe completely vegan!
Does vegan mayo taste good?
It depends. There are several brands that have come out with vegan mayo in the past couple years and even more developing them today. Some of the brands hit the nail on the head and the taste is identical, some other missed the mark by quite a bit. We recommend the Hellman's brand vegan mayo and if you're in Canada the PC brand vegan mayo spread.
