The Details
This is the first day of "Le Vegan Pizza Week" a week I made up to eat more pizza! I love pizza, like really love it! Ever since going vegan though it's been hard to find a good vegan pizza takeout. I decided to take matters into my own hands and create my own vegan pizzas.
Day 1: Vegan Pizza Dough (this recipe)
Day 2: Homemade Vegan Pizza
Day 3: Vegan BBQ Chicken Pizza
Day 4: Vegan Breakfast Pizza
Day 5: Vegan Butter Chicken Pizza
Day 6: Vegan Buffalo Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza
Day 7: Vegan Spicy Perogy Pizza
I may have completely made up this week but I'm totally making it a thing! I wanted to start the first day of the week with a vegan pizza dough so we could all have a base for the rest of the recipes all week.
How To Make Vegan Pizza Dough
This recipe is so easy to make and doesn't require any special equipment. If you have a stand mixer and you'd like to use it to knead the ingredients you are more than welcome to but I don't have one and it was still perfect.
Baking and doughs can be tricky because not only do the measurements need to be precise but the humidity and heat in your kitchen can play a role in the outcome.
This recipe makes a thick crust pizza because that's my favorite.

Kitchen Equipment I used for recipe:
- Dough Roller - Paramount to rolling out the dough and getting a good and even spread. Especially if you haven't worked in a pizzeria and don't have the pizza toss technique down!
- Stand Mixer - I didn't use a stand mixer for this recipe BUT for baking and dough recipes stand mixers can make your life infinitely easier. This is a great quality stand mixer, especially for the price!
- Pizza Stone - Not necessarily needed for this recipe but the next step would be to make a pizza with your vegan pizza dough in which case you would need a pizza stone potentially.
Instructions for Vegan Pizza Dough
- Start by whisking together warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes or until it begins to froth.
- In a separate large bowl mix together flour, garlic powder, basil leaves, and salt. Once mixed together create a well in the middle. Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the well. Use a spatula to combine everything together.
- Flour a work surface and knead the dough 15 times. Sprinkle flour on the dough ball as needed.
- Put the dough back in the mixing bowl that's been rimmed with olive oil. Make sure the dough is coated with oil, cover the bowl with a tea towel and let rise in the oven with the light on for 30 minutes or until doubled in size. (can take up to 2 hours)
- Once the dough has doubled in size, use your fist and punch down on it expelling the air. Then divide the dough into two even balls. If you're not making two pizzas see the freezing instructions below.
- On the lightly floured surface use your rolling pin (or hands) to stretch the dough to fit your pizza stone, skillet, or pan.
- Top with your favorite toppings and bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes!
