I LOVE tater tots. I mean who doesn't they're basically the perfect food! One of my favorite restaurants ever here in Winnipeg makes tater tot nachos which are to die for! Since I was doing Le Vegan Pizza Week the past week I figured I would adapt their recipe and make a bonus 8th recipe for the week!
How-To Make
These pizza tots are super easy to make and are ready in under 20 minutes. There are really only two steps to the process but simple doesn't mean bad! They're still tasty and will have you coming back for more!
They're also completely customizable too. The base recipe here is classic pepperoni but you can add so whichever toppings you'd like and make them your own!
Ingredients
- Tater Tots ($1.49) Whichever brand you use doesn't really matter we usually just pick the ones that are on sale. You want at least about 1 pound or 400 ish grams of tater tots for the recipe.
- Sauce ($0.36) We love using my mom’s pasta sauce recipe as our pizza sauce and we almost always have extras frozen in our freezer that make it easy to defrost and use, but you can use whichever pizza or pasta sauce you like.
- Vegan Pepperoni ($1.58) The most realistic vegan pepperoni we’ve been able to find so far is made by Yves. The taste is very similar.
- Vegan Mozzarella ($1.99) Vegan cheese is always hotly debated and for the most part, it sucks and doesn’t melt well. The best cheese we’ve found that melts well is Miyokos Mozzarella. Pro-tip: freeze the cheese before grating it onto the pizza. You could save some money by choosing a different vegan cheese other than Myokos which is the priciest here in Canada but we find that it yields the best results so it’s worth the price.

Kitchen Equipment I used for recipe:
- Ninja Foodie 9-1 Air Fryer Unit – This is the air fryer unit I use and it’s unreal because it comes with an instant pot, steamer, dehydrator, sautee, and more all in one unit! It comes in a couple of different sizes (I got the 8 quarts and it’s huge but I love it).
Instructions
- Add your tater tots to the air fryer and turn it on at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
- While your tater tots cook warm the pizza/pasta sauce in a saucepan on low-med heat.
- When the tater tots are done cooking add them to an oven-safe bowl or baking sheet. Top the tater tots with the warmed pizza/pasta sauce, vegan mozzarella, and vegan pepperonis. Turn your oven on to broil and place the pizza tots in the oven for 5 minutes or until the cheese melts.
- Remove from oven, let sit until the bowl is cooled enough to handle.
- Serve and Enjoy!

Vegan cheese is a hotly debated topic, with most people trying one brand of vegan cheese and determining they hate all vegan cheese. However vegan cheeses have made great strides in recent years. There are still some really terrible vegan cheeses out there but there are some really amazing ones too! It all really depends on what kind of cheese you need and what you're using it for but Miyokos generally makes amazing vegan products!
There aren't too many brands of vegan pepperoni out there. We enjoy the Yves brand as the best store-bought vegan pepperoni we have access to. Although we've also had really amazing homemade seitan pepperoni before too!
You can literally combine pizza toppings in hundreds of thousands of different ways depending on your taste buds. That's a lot and there are probably a lot of really bad combinations in there too. But here are some of our favorite pizza toppings:

- Mushrooms
- Vegan Bacon Bits
- Onions
- Vegan Parm
- Basil
- Vegan Feta
- Green Peppers
- Jalapenos
We recommend not storing these if you can. Tater tots get soggy as they cool off and they lose all of their crispiness. You can store these in an airtight container for 48 hours, but they are best enjoyed hot and fresh.
